California Weather & Earth Sciences offers a variety of oceanographic science research and studies, involving: Ocean and Coastal Zone
Coastal flooding, coastal flood plain determinations; preparedness programs. Coral reef studies and environmental protection programs [see also Environmental and Natural Resources Research]. Deep-sea research and studies. Long-term sea level fluctuations; implications for global warming. Ocean-atmosphere interaction; effects of ocean temperatures on weather and climate on scales from local to global. Ocean currents. Possibility of changes in currents resulting from global warming and polar ice melt. Ocean floor geophysics, deep-water marine geology. Oil spills: research and studies on expediency of clean-up and minimizing of environmental damage. Satellite oceanography: detection of small sea level changes and sea surface temperature fluctuations. Sea surface temperatures (SST): large-scale, multi-year sea level and sea surface temperature fluctuations. Effects on El Niño, La Niña, Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO), Madden-Julian Oscillation, Kelvin waves, and seasonal weather patterns. Storm surges and high waves: damage potential, risks to life. Tsunamis: research, modeling, risks; preparedness and evacuation programs. Undersea fault studies [see also
