• Beach and coastal cliff erosion on various scales;  relationship to climate variations

• Deep-sea research and studies.

• Long-term sea level fluctuations; implications for global warming.

• Ocean-atmosphere interaction; effects of ocean temperatures on weather and climate on scales from local to global.

• Ocean currents.  Possibility of changes in currents resulting from global warming and polar ice melt.

• Ocean floor geophysics, deep-water marine geology.

• Oil spills:  research and studies on expediency of clean-up and minimizing of environmental damage.

• Satellite oceanography:  detection of small sea level changes and sea surface temperature fluctuations.
